| Eligibility Criteria for admission to Ph.D degree course |
| The student candidate or the teacher candidate desire to register for Ph.D degree course by way of research should fulfil the eligibility conditions mentioned as follows: |
- He /She should hold Postgraduate Qualification (P.G.Degree\ P.G.Diploma\ N.B.) in the concerned subject of Health Sciences.
- He/she should hold M.S.C.I.T. or any equivalent certificate related to basic knowledge of Computer applications.
- Applications for research in inter-disciplinary areas and from applicants belonging to a faculty or subject other than faculty or subject in which the research is proposed to be done and from the International students (those who have not obtained the PG degree from Indian University for whom the equivalency of degree as per respective council will be necessary) shall be considered on the basis of the proven ability and aptitude of the researcher for such kind of research. The admission will be confirmed after the Board of Research concerned approves the topic.
- For Teacher candidates, No objection Certificate, from Head of Institute will be mandatory at the time of application. Only fulltime regular approved teacher of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik will be treated as teacher for benefit of provisions under Section – 17(c). For remaining, this course will be full time and regular course.
- In exceptional cases, the candidates holding graduate qualification in Health sciences, with proven ability and fifteen years professional experience can be considered as eligible for Ph.D degree course registration, on the recommendation of concerned board of research.

| Admission Procedure |
- Advertisement: The University Cell constituted as per section 4, will publish a Notification in month of July \ August every year, for admission to Ph.D. degree course under all faculties of Health Sciences and calls applications from eligible candidates. This Notification will contain Number of seats available for registration (faculty wise, centre wise & subject wise distribution of seats, along with list of recognised guides) application form and general rules regarding admission procedure. The rules regarding reservation as specified by State Government will be incorporated in notification. This Notification will be published at University website along with one national and one state level news paper.
- Entrance Test: The University Cell will organise a written test of 100 marks in the month of July \ August. The syllabus of this test and format of question paper and other details, will be decided by a committee appointed by Vice- Chancellor amongst the members of the Board of Research of each faculty.
- Interview: Within 07 days from the date of entrance test the merit list will be displayed by the University and on a fixed day but within 15 days from the date of examination the personal interview of successful candidates will be organised at the University. This interview will be carried out by a committee appointed by the Vice - Chancellor amongst the members of the Board of Research. In this interview more emphasis will be given on research interest/area of candidate and choice of the centre and guide.
- Allotment: After successful interview the committee will allot guide/supervisor and centre to the candidate as per choice of candidate but strictly on merit, in the form of written allotment letter. The copy of this letter will be forwarded to the Head of the Research Centre and guide/supervisor. The letter of allotment will specify the date of registration and the tentative date of completion. If the candidate failed to complete his work in stipulated time period due to any reason, in such cases he/she will be liable to pay extra fees as prescribed.
- Registration: After obtaining allotment letter the selected candidate should report at place of work (allotted centre) within 07 days and afterward fulfils the remaining registration procedure at centre. 10 copies of outline of research along with one soft copy and application in prescribed format along with Demand Draft for prescribed fees, for the registration for Ph.D course shall be recommended by research guide and forwarded through Head of the Department and Head of the Institution from the candidate shall be submitted to the University, within ninety days from date of allotment. Topic should be approved by research committee and ethics committee of College where research is to be undertaken and certificate in this regard should be submitted within six months. Once the University has confirmed final registration of the student for the particular topic, after three months no change in the topic shall be allowed, without prior permission of Board of Research.

| Duration of the Ph. D. |
- A candidate doing research leading to the Ph. D. degree must have worked for a minimum period of 02 years, and in the normal course, he/she will not be allowed to submit his/her thesis before completing two years from the date of his/her allotment as a research student. The minimum period for Candidates who possess Post graduate qualification in concerned subject, will be 2 years and for candidates with M.Sc. (Medical Subjects), and all other including Interdisciplinary candidates will be minimum 3 years from the date of allotment.
- In case the candidate is not able to complete his/her research work within a maximum period of 06 years, on the request of the candidate through the research guide, which should be six month prior to expiry date the Board of Research may grant extension of time not more than further 02 years. In such a case, the candidate shall be required to pay the tuition fees again. After expiry of this grace period the registration of candidate will be automatically get cancelled and afterward he\she may register again as a fresh candidate after following full procedure mentioned above at sr.no.14.
Course Work:
- After registration and within six months from the date of registration, each and every candidate registered for Ph.D. Course has to complete a Pre- Ph.D. orientation course of 1 week duration at a place recognized and declared by University from time to time as an authorised centre. Under this course an update on knowledge regarding research methodology & biostatistics will be provided to candidates.
- After completion of research, the candidate will prepare a draft thesis, and present the same before Departmental research committee, at place of work. The feedbacks and comments given by member should be incorporated in Final Thesis
- Each and every candidate shall publish one research paper or submit the evidence of acceptance of paper, related to his work in a recognized journal before submission of Final thesis to University.
- The student will send six monthly progress reports through the guide and Head of the institute in prescribed format to University.
Supervision for Ph. D. Research:
- A candidate shall work under the direct supervision of a recognized Ph.D. guide of the University. At any given time a guide shall not have more than Eight (08) registered research students working under his/her supervision/guidance.
- In case of interdisciplinary subjects only, a co-guide recognized by this or, in special circumstances, by any other recognized University will be permissible along with main Guide.
- Normally a candidate shall be required to complete his research under the direct supervision of his/her guide at recognized Centre. However, a candidate who is a, M.U.H.S. approved Teacher may be permitted by the Board of Research to complete his research work at his college (place of duty\appointment). In such condition it shall be mandatory for such Teacher Candidate to work at least 90 days per academic year under direct supervision of his Guide at recognized centre, before submission of final thesis. However those candidates are recognised by this University as a P.G. Guide under faculty of Homoeopathy will also considered under this rule as a M.U.H.S. teacher and this provision will be applicable up to next five years. The certificate from Guide regarding this attendance will be precondition, while submitting final thesis to university through head of institute.
- As a special case\exceptional case, the Board of Research in the faculty may permit a candidate to register for Ph.D. independently (Under Self guidance ) i.e. without having to work under the supervision of a guide, provided he satisfies the condition for eligibility given in section 11 of this direction and has proved ability to undertake independent research work. He/She shall submit his/her application in the prescribed format for the purpose through proper channel.
- Normally a candidate shall be required to complete his research under the supervision of his/her guide. However, a candidate may be permitted by the Board of Research to transfer his/her registration from one research guide to another, provided the first guide gives no objection certificate for such a transfer and the research guide under whom the transfer is sought gives his/her consent to accept the candidate. Provided further that in the case of such a transfer, if the research topic of candidate is also changed, then in such cases the candidate shall have to work under new guide for a minimum period of two years before he is allowed to submit his/her thesis.
- Whenever the research guide of a candidate leaves the University / College / Institute or retires from service but continues to be recognized as a Research guide, the Dean of the concerned Faculty shall, after ascertaining the choice of the student either to continue to work under the supervision of the same research guide (provided he/she has kept two terms under his/her supervision) or to work under another research guide, make appropriate recommendation to the Vice-Chancellor. In the latter case, the Research guide under whom the student wants to work shall give in writing his/her willingness to accept the student and a no-objection certificate from the first research guide is necessary.
- In case of any dispute between a candidate and his guide, the committee consisting of the following shall examine the matter and report to the Vice-Chancellor, whose decision shall be final:
(i) Nominee of the Board of Research concerned appointed by the Vice Chancellor (Convener)
(ii) Dean of the concerned faculty.
(iii) The Head, place of research (If the complaint is against the Head, he shall not participate in the proceedings of the meeting.) The report shall include, among other things specific recommendations. The report shall be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor.
The presentation of the thesis:
(a) The thesis shall be written or printed only in English.
(b) After completion of the minimum study period as specified in section 15 and after completion of course work as specified in section 16, and within 2 months from the date of completion mentioned in allotment letter, the candidate shall forward to the Registrar, through his/her Research guide and Head of Research Place, Four hard copies of his\her thesis along with two soft copies of thesis and Ten copies of the summary and the prescribed fees for evaluation. The thesis shall include certificate in form 'A', from the research guide of the candidate that, the work reported in the thesis has been carried out by the candidate himself/herself for the first time and that the research work from other sources has not been included. Such material as has been obtained from other sources should be duly acknowledged in the thesis.
